The Cellular Jail is located at Port Blair in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Cellular Jail stands as a symbol of colonial oppression cruelty & untold suffering is mute witness to the tortures meted out to the freedom fighters who were incarcerated in this jail .the prison completed in the year 1906 acquired the name “CELLULAR” because it is entirely made up on individual cells for solitary confinements of the prisoners. Now it has declared national memorial by the Indian Administration.The Cellular Jail is today acknowledged as a National Memorial monument.

It originally was a seven-block structure with three stories and a central tower acting as its fulcrum comprising of honeycomb like corridors. The first floor of the building contains an art gallery, a Netaji exhibition, and a library on freedom of movement.Opening Hours 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 1:30 pm to 4:45 pm all days except National holidays. In addition, visitors can also enjoy a Sound and Light show in Hindi as well as in English conducted during evening (06:00PM &7:15PM) within the premises of the Cellular Jail. This program depicts the heroic Freedom Struggle and the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and truly touches the soul of every Indian.
